Valkyrie Elysium descends onto PS5 and PS4 in 2022

The Valkyrie series is back in a brand-new action-RPG from Square Enix.

During PlayStation’s latest State of Play, we revealed Valkyrie Elysium – a fresh entry in the acclaimed Valkyrie series.

The Valkyrie series depicts the end of humanity and their encounters with the gods through a unique world inspired by Norse mythology.

This thrilling new action-RPG brings this franchise to PS5 and PS4 in a brand-new standalone adventure.

We have a lot to tell you about, but before we introduce about the game, let’s take a look at the announcement trailer:

Valkyrie Elysium descends onto PS5 and PS4 in 2022

What is Valkyrie Elysium?

Valkyrie Elysium is an action-RPG featuring an epic story, beautiful environments, and a new fast-paced combat system that combines strategy, action, and a unique combo system that will test your ability to think and react.

The game takes place in the distant past, in a world where Ragnarok – the End Times – looms large upon the realms.

With the last of his strength, the All-Father creates an emissary of redemption – a lone Valkyrie who can become the salvation of this doomed world. As this brave warrior descends into the ruined land, she encounters many challenges… and uncovers the hidden truth behind its impending destruction.

What will she think of this irrational world… and what end will she choose for it?

The gameplay of Valkyrie Elysium

Valkyrie Elysium also incorporates elements of the Valkyrie series’ classic gameplay, such as the Einherjar – recruitable warriors who will join the hero and fight at her side when summoned. It’s a beautiful game, too, with incredible art design that captures the spirit of the series in an exciting, modern way. On PS5, it’s also running in 4K and 60 FPS, making for an adventure that looks and feels beautifully crisp.

And, of course, we must mention the music. Series composer Motoi Sakuraba returns and contributes to the game’s stunning score. RPGs are always better when they have a strong soundtrack, and this one is going to be… well, literally music to your ears.

Launching later this year

Valkyrie Elysium releases for PS5 and PS4 in 2022. We’ll have more information to share later on the triumphant return of the Valkyrie this year, so watch out for that!

  • day one, was a pleasant surprise

    • Yup, best part of the presentation for me. Loved the first 2 Valkyrie games. This looks like a perfect successor.
4K at 60 fps is rad.

    • I have received € 27346 over the past 4 weeks from working part-time online from home. I got this job 2 months ago and in my first month without any online experience I received € 20569. Anyone can get this job today and start making real money online by following the instructions on this website.

  • Presentation quality does nothing for me as a ps5 owner. Great news for Valkyrie fans to be sure.

    • yeah man, i loved the original but why does the colors look so washed out? graphics seem like they could def be better too.

  • Motoi Sakuraba has composed some of my favorite game soundtracks ever. It’s amazing that he is working on both a new Star Ocean AND new Valkyrie Profile at the same time.

    Give that man a raise!

  • Only one question regarding the trailer. Where is my Nibelung Valesti?! XD

  • When/where can I preorder!?

  • It shall be engraved upon your soul!

  • Remaster both Valkyrie Profile lenneth and silmeria in a collection and release it along with elysium!

  • I’m getting more cautious about what video games I purchase. I played Valkyrie Profile and Valkyrie Profile Silmeria both we excellent video games.

What bothers me is one of the characters in this new addition which seems like cultural appropriation. So I’ll wait and see.

    • You lost me there. No idea what S.J.W. stuff you’re seeing, but everything looks cool to me. Great graphic style too.

  • I’m getting more cautious about what video games I purchase. I played Valkyrie Profile and Valkyrie Profile Silmeria both were excellent video games.

What bothers me is one of the characters in this new addition which seems like cultural appropriation. So I’ll wait and see.

    • people really gotta be as politically correct (woke) as possible these days.

I mean it’s entertainment people are trying to make cool stuff and constantly people that make nothing want to grasp at straws often with no actual interest in the product.

i’m sure you are planning on buying this, but if you really feel it’s cultural appropriation don’t support it.

  • We waited so long for this! Thank you, Square-Enix. Day 1 lets go!!!

  • HYPE! Been waiting 17 years for this, can’t wait to see how she connects to the valkyrie trinity!

  • Пользуясь случаем, хочу передать привет нашим японским друзьям! Ну че там, «Play Has No Limit’s»? “For the Players»?
Расскажите в блоге, как можно будет вернуть деньги за PS Plus, это будет полезней, ведь, бл#%ть, мы не сможем купить ни одной игры!

  • Happy to see more JRPGs coming to PlayStation, doubly so when it hits right up my alley. Wonder who is developing this though, Media Vision?

Getting both this and Star Ocean TDF day one!

  • I pass

    • never played the original Valkyrie but the gameplay gave me Nier replicant slash star ocean vibes which are both unique and beautiful (stories aside) games imo.

pretty excited for the new star ocean and now for this one too.

I know they won’t be perfect but if they can at least capture the nostalgia and essence of the older games and build upon that even in a different gameplay formula that’s interesting enough for me plus you can’t go wrong with Square Enix’s rpgs music, they have some pretty good composers.

  • For a sec. I thought this was Nier during the trailer presentation. However, after watching the trailer of the game. I am very impressed of how this game look. Looking forward.

    • It gave me Drakengarde 3 vibes at first. Including the bland muted colors and outdated engine look.
I liked Dragengarde 3 a lot but we gotta stop gooning and bating over these outdated looking “new” games.

  • What a great surprise to see this in the showcase! I can’t wait to play this game, man. You guys just give me a date and I’ll have my wallet ready.

  • Grapics are fire

  • Even as someone who hasn’t played a Valkyrie profile game this looks beautiful and fun.

  • Loved the original.
This was actually one of the first games I searched for when I received my new system two weeks ago.
This is such great news for me. I’m even ready to preorder. 😁
